“Men marry down, and women marry up”!

Have you heard this saying before? I don’t recall hearing it, I came across it at:

"...not enough women have what it takes to behave like arrogant self-aggrandizing jerks"

I just read a blog article by Clay Shirky, called "A Rant about Women".
Here is the article: http://www.shirky.com/weblog/2010/01/a-rant-about-women/
Shirky basically says that women do not bluff often enough, they won't take the risk to over-present themselves, fearing that they may fail and humiliate themselves. And that is why they loose out to men in the competition.

What I love about my job

I have been thinking for some time what I love most about my job. Being an academic is a hard job. You work long hours, not because your boss tells you so, but because you want to. The pay is moderate, probably too low considering the amount of time and work one needs to invest in order to get a tenure-track job.

I wonder

I’ve been thinking about this post for a few days now, not sure if I am exaggerating things or its nothing serious- just a combination of several issues. But it is definitely reality!

group studying

Studying with friends is a great strategy, you can exchange ideas and study faster. Studying in groups is good sometimes and bad other times. It is good because you can exchange more ideas and solve the assignments faster. It is bad when some people only come to the study group to learn how to solve the assignment and they just don’t add anything to the group.

Are female bosses harsher on women than male bosses?

I don’t remember what was it exactly, but a recent conversation with an old friend reminded me of my first boss, incidentally a female. She was an engineer who owned a consulting company. I worked with her for 5 years.
